[Geary] No messages showing up at all, no conversations selected

Hello geary folks!

I'm sending this from Claws-mail, but I'm trying to transfer my email
over to geary.  So far the experiment is not working.

* I get notifications of new mail
* I can compose and send mail okay
* but I can't see any mail at all.  I can see the number of messages in
  each account, but the second pane is blank, and the message pane
  shows the "No Conversations selected." dialog.
* Minor bug - the name of the app according to the Ubuntu menu is
  "Inbox (*account nickname*)" of the first account I set up.  I assume
  that should be "Geary".

I set up 5 accounts, including a GMail account with 40,000 messages -
but all accounts are using the default "Only last 2 weeks" so by now
all the messages should be downloaded.

I've been watching the logs - they aren't helping me yet, but I'm happy
to do specific experiments and share.

Using 0.11.3 on Ubuntu 16.04 (downloaded using the ppa).
