Not quite. Geary mines your messages for email addresses and uses those for auto-completion. There are some heuristics to choose the best form of and order the contacts, so it's probably finding your Google contacts from the messages you've sent to and received from them.

The long-term plan, as I understand it, is to interface with Gnome Contacts, which I think can pull contacts from Google. Details are here:
