Quoting tjoen <tjoen dds nl>:
Try closing down network only after gdm has stopped in initscripts
I've already tried adding "# Should-Stop: $network" to /etc/init.d/gdm
and running insserv, making sure that it had rearranged the symlinks
as expected, but alas. On my test system, which includes a logout
script with a 10 second sleep that has so far always managed to
reproduce the problem, this had no effect. It definitely delays gdm
shutdown, but hardly delays the total workstation shutdown time, while
the logout script still does not complete.
On the other hand, today I was thinking that this might have something
to do with dependency based booting, so I added .legacy-bootordering
(an empty file) to the /etc/init.d/ directory to disable it. And, it
worked!
This is one solution to the problem, but if there is no other then I
see this as another blow to dependency based booting. Of course, it's
relatively new and not supposed to be perfect yet, but as it stands I
will soon have few hosts left where it has not been disabled.
Cheers,
Jaap
