I'm on Slackware-current, and i didn't need it at all for GNOME 2.16
(default stuff went relativity cleanly, at least i never had to
uncomment any lines to make the hal compile like what i needed to do in
2.14), i would assume this applies to GNOME 2.17 too, but haven't tested it

Patch is not required running slack 11.
Only if the 2.6.x headers have been added, after the end of the
installation and many may not be inclined to do so :)
Not sure if I can follow you here. :) In which cases is this patch
still necessary, if any? When would it not be necessary, what needs to
be done, and what impact does this have?
Since neither Joseph nor me got any Slackware system, we need your guys
help and opinion. We sure prefer not to ship any distro-specific hack,
if possible. Worse, shipping a broken patch...
Any opinion welcome, discussion much appreciated. ;) Thanks...
