That's probably excessive choice, though; where to save your scores is
pretty banal and isn't something the user should have to think about.

You need the setgid enabled to write the shared scores. Distributions
have requested that we drop that approach. Today most computers are
single user anyway so the shared scores does not add value for most
cases. That was why we began storing the highscores in home instead. I
think that we should store them en home only. Other means of sharing
them have been talked about. E.g. a telepathy tube could be used to
view the highscores of your IM friends.
