/Var/games isn't writable for me on fedora so the dialogues always say "you didn't reach the highscores". I don't think the consequences of such a setting would be easily explainable to the common user. I am all for moving this stuff over to the home directory.

That's probably excessive choice, though; where to save your scores is
pretty banal and isn't something the user should have to think about.
