The inclusion of Flash, Silverlight, etc is not a GNOME thing per se
but more of a distribution decision. In other words, GNOME does not
handle the decision of what other distributions choose to ship.
It is a fact that We don't control the decisions these distros make.
Nonetheless, we care very much about these decisions (See
http://www.gnu.org/distros), because they determine whether the GNU
system leads the users to freedom or not.
Since we can't control these decisions, we need to try to influence
them. We do this in various ways, but we need to do it more.
The page http://www.gnu.org/distros is our most direct way of trying
to influence these decisions. But we can also influence them
indirectly, by talking about the philosophy of free software as an
ethical issue. People who understand how a nonfree program takes away
their freedom will understand why it is better not to have Adobe Flash
Player installed.
This brings us back to the question I asked: how do candidates
propose to use GNOME's awareness share to spread this message
about freedom?
