The timeline, chronological bar, has always looked wrong to me.
There are a number of bugs about the timeline and the first
one starts to address the problems:
Bug 577373 - Suggestion: reverse Timeline (on default)
Are these two dups?
Bug 396574 - Make it posible to have the timeline vertical
Bug 569173 - Timeline on side for widescreen monitors
Bug 557247 - Timeline and selected picture should be in sync
Bug 556943 - Improve timeline scrolling

the chronological bar is wrong: now (feb 2011) it is between 2011 and

I think you may just have reversed the order. It appears a year label
is always at the left end of that year. If time flows right to left,
then the "2011" label is over December 2011 and February 2011 is almost
(back) to December 2010, where the "2010" label is located. Try right
clicking on the bar and selecting "reverse order" and see if that make
more sense to you.

if it's a feature, ok
my point is that it's not logical
the choice to have the label of the year at the left end of the year
is disturbing, in my own opinion, because the label does not behave like
a graduation on a ruler, which it looks like.
if the year 2011 was really between the label 2011 and 2010 then
also let's start January at left and fill from left to right, with
a gap between current date and the end of previous year!
the current situation seems like the content progresses linearly
from right to left like the time itself behave, but above the content
description, the date label is a marker (of the end of the year!),
not a graduation, which is disturbing.
