Re: managing raw files

Hi,

I'm also shooting RAW and have had the same problem. I came up with the
following workflow:

1. import RAW files to special import folder
2. quick scan and first sorting with gqview
3. further selection and editing with bibble
4. converting all images as batch to 1200x1800 pixel jpgs to an export folder
5. importing all those jpgs to f-spot (I'm using the ~/photos folder)
6. a python script now checks for correct import, deletes the jpgs in the
export folder and moves the RAW files together with bibbles sidecar file to a
folder structure under ~/RAW/year/month/day/xyz.cr2 according to the
exif-date of the RAW-file.

It is now easy to find the RAW file that is the source of a jpg as the file
names are always the same as the jpg and the location of the file is also
clear. What remains to be done is a script that I call from f-spot to open or
delete a RAW file. But the necessary desktop file is still an open question
for me.

Another thing to solve is to manage different jpgs created from the same
RAW-file. I hope the announced features will bring a solution for this
problem.

All in all I'm very happy with my solution and find it very efficient.

regards
Thomas
