In my case I had to use the email address as the UID.

Do you mean you changed it from the user name only to the email in the
Receiving Options? It can be changed in the settings, to prefill full
email, instead of user-name-part-of-the-email there, depending which
will work better/mostly.

Yes and no. The info I got from our Exchange mail admins was to try with
username only, username domain se or the email address.
