Keep an eye on https://www.ubuntuupdates.org

Hi,

it's not a major update, but still an update to another version. The
Ubuntu policy is not strictly against such updates, but you shouldn't
keep an eye on something that "is not affiliated in any way with
Canonical" - https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/about . Instead care about
Ubuntu upstream, see https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/evolution on the
right side for "ubuntu", see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evo
lution .

All the details are a little bit too long for this mailing list, but
to
understand Ubuntu update processes a little bit better, a starting
point
might be

"MOTU Processes

List of other Distro related processes

Merging - updating packages from Debian to Ubuntu requiring
changes.

Syncs - updating packages from Debian to Ubuntu without any
changes.

Freeze Exceptions - requesting an exception from the Release
Schedule.

Universe Stable Release Updates - updating packages in stable
releases (i.e -updates).

Security Update Procedures - updating packages for security fixes
in stable releases (i.e. -security)."

, the links are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU#MOTU_Proces
ses .

Especially follow the "Universe Stable Release Updates" link and
consider to at least read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdate
s#When
and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microre
leases .

Keep in mind, the package "evolution" is in Ubuntu's universe
repository, see https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/evolution .

ltiverse-universe-restricted-and-main

Thunderbird is in "Main" and AFAIK usually provided by default
installs
of Ubuntu flavour install medias.

The ubuntu maintainer of the Evo packages may well be on this list,
or
known to someone on this list, and worth contacting.

You better search official Ubuntu websites on how to ask for an
update,
instead of hoping that the sister-in-law of a neighbour of somebody
subscribed to this list, knows a maintainer and that this maintainer
is
willing to care about whisper down the lane bug reports + is willing
trying to enforce the desired update within an Ubuntu release.

Ralf

Hi

You took what I said out of context Ralf !!

Right for all those frightened of breaking their system by updating to
 3.28.3-0ubuntu1
The above version number is copied and pasted from the "Help/about"
pulldown.

I'm running Linux Mint 19 with Evolution 3.28.3, and it hasn't broken
the system here :) the caveat is just because it hasn't broken mine
does not mean it wont brake yours.

Installed by adding the source to /etc/apt/sources.list, and the entry
hashed out afterwards, otherwise there is a large download when running
update. Dont forget to run apt update after removing the extra repo.

HTH

 Best wishes /73
