2) The problem was with Network Manager, i read that since Debian v6 
Network Manager would not handle wired connections. Therefore, what i 
did was to make Network Manager handle the wired connections following 
the instructions provided in the Debian website. Thanks Patrick for the 
help.

1) Regarding my first problem with the contact categories downloaded 
from a CardDav server, i found that if i create manually add the category 
name in the list of categories i can use them correctly. Therefore i guess 
this is a bug that it doesn't update the categories list.
