okay, so it's crashing in gtk+. I found only one bug report with a
reference to that function:

but it seems as a coincidence only. It can be that the crash is not
known yet.
You are right that it is related to the theme settings. I guess if
you'll use Adwaita for the gtk3, then the crash will be gone (because
the Adwaita is the default (and built-in in gtk+) theme, thus it is
fine-tuned with compare of the other themes).
As you imply, problems started when I changed the theme from from Adwaita to
Breeze. Unfortunately, I made the change because I had found that Adwaita was
unusable, because of the way its scrollbars work. I suspect there is a way to
fine-tune the Adwaita's scrollbars in Gnome, but I haven't found out how to do
it in KDE.
How can I help with debugging? Would you like more backtraces?
