Thanks a lot! The tool also works on Ubuntu 14.04, although it is in
a slightly different folder, command example:
/usr/lib/evolution/3.10/evolution-addressbook-export --format=csv
–output=/home/.../mycontacts.csv
The format csv is surely easier to process than vcf.
If you are scripting-handy the Python module vobject parses [and
composes] vCard data.

A question from a programming layman: Why is the option to export to
csv not included in the GUI of evolution? Could this be added in a
future version?
I think the csv-format is more common today.
