Still, that shouldn't make evolution freeze. What were you testing with? One 
IMAP account? Which other MUA was being used at that time? Could you reproduce it?

Were you from the other MUA doing operations such as moving around/tagging a big 
number of messages? That's the only thing I can think of that would slightly justify 
evolution (although it's no excuse for freezing).
