From what you said before it sounds like your current local folders
never got migrated to Maildir format for some reason and are still in
mbox format.
To test that theory, try the following:
1) Shutdown Evolution.
2) Rename ~/.local/share/evolution/mail/local to something else, say
"recovery" for the sake of discussion.
3) Restart Evolution. It will create a new "On This Computer" storage
area in Maildir format.
4) File -> Import, pick the file "recovery/Inbox" and see if Evolution
recognizes it as an mbox file. If so, import it to your new Maildir
Inbox under "On This Computer".
5) Repeat step 4 for your other mbox folders.
This of course will be cumbersome if you have lots of folders. Maybe
others on this list know of a more efficient way.
You can create an account of type "mbox spool directory", that will
treat each file in the directory as an mbox folder and list them in the
account. It will be more efficient that importing every folder
individually.
