Re: [Evolution] evolution-list Digest, Vol 75, Issue 10

Please do not reply to list digests. Doing so has three bad
side-effects, two of which are fixable and one not:

1) (Fixable): Most people don't bother trimming the reply properly so we
end up with an entire digest being resent to the list (where of course
it will be included again in the next digest ...). You didn't do that,
but a lot of others do.

2) (Fixable): the Subject line has nothing to do with the topic, but is
just a random digest title. Can be fixed by editing while composing the
reply, but you didn't do this.

3) (Not fixable): breaks threading. You reply to a digest and restrict
the quote to a specific topic. You even edit the Subject line. However
standard threading doesn't use the Subject line but requires the use of
certain headers which will not now be present. IOW your reply will not
be threaded with the message you are really replying to, and of course
neither will any replies to your reply. The thread is now broken.

If you only receive the digest version of the list, you can reply to the
specific message, and retain the correct Subject line, using Reply To
Digest Message (or whatever it's called -- I haven't used digests in
many years and it's only offered when looking at a digest).
