If using evolution as my mail agent, and I choose Group Reply to respond
to a message, the primary To address ends up being the person who
responded with CC containing the mailing list address. With most other
mailing lists, it only goes to the group. Of course, it then is sent
to those who subscribe, so perhaps it doesn't make any difference. But,
in the past some people have objected to the mail seemingly being
directed privately to them.
Others object, more reasonably IMO, to being *dropped* from the
conversation. Being cut out completely is much worse than getting two
copies of the message. Lost information cannot be regained; redundant
information can be handled relatively easily.
See http://david.woodhou.se/reply-to-list.html which explains the
background and the configurable behaviour of Evolution's Group Reply
button â and why you shouldn't change it from the default.
