[Evolution] How to make Evolution delete mails on server?

Hello to all,

I am new to Evolution and very greatful that there is an option like this mailing list to exchange
experiences with the software and ask some questions - thankyou to all who is so active in supporting this
community!

My concern is that after I delete mails in Evolution, I have expected them to be deleted from the server as
well (as e.g. in Outlook). Is there such an option in Evoltion?

Thanks a lot in advance for a short response!

Hi,
I'd like to synchronize the mail between two evolution on different
partitions, any already containing different messages.

If you just mean merge the contents of one .evolution directory into
another, rsync is probably the easiest way, but make sure Evo is
turned
off while doing it (evolution --force-shutdown). See the FAQ
(Help->FAQ)
questions on backing up Evo for more on what to watch out for,
particularly gconf stuff.

If that's not what you mean, please explain.

This is linked to the fact that if you set up a display by list of
the
contacts, you can "see" them on screen correctly but cannot print
them
as you see them ... nor can you change the printer views but this
could
be linked to the printer drivers... I originally had a windows
printer ...

In that case you probably want a Vcard printing application.

That's ok. But why there's no export item in the menu. There's a
import item  but no  export.

Don't know, I'm not an Evo developer - I'm just suggesting a solution to
the original poster.

Besides, there *is* an "export" function - it's called 'Vcard' format,
which is a standard format for contact information which other programs
that deal with contact information can understand. That's the point of
a standard. What the OP was asking for was an export to a "spreadsheet
format", which, with the best will in the world, is not a known format
for contacts. What I presumed they meant was CSV format - which, to
some extent I might consider is OK for contact info, but there is no
standard for where to put which fields within the file. so the "export"
function would have to have some way of configuring what fields go where
- in otherwords it's become a major programming task.

I, for one, would prefer the devs to concentrate on core features and
bug fixing rather than implementing enhancements to areas where there is
already sufficient functionality.

However, if anyone feels that it is a needed enhancement, then the
easiest way is to file a bug for it.

      Hi,
try the external tool evolution-addressbook-export , which is hidden for
me in /usr/libexec/evolution/2.28/

Maybe look also at this

but I didn't read it much, thus maybe the information there is obsolete.
      Bye,

Surely that's the point of Vcard/VCF format - if it didn't have the VCF
"trash" it wouldn't be a VCF format!!

I have a similar problem with exporting data from Evolution and the
vCard sounds like a good solution. Where can I find information on how
to use it?

Thank you.

If you mean how you export to that format, then select the select the
address book, then File -> Save Address Book as Vcard.

If you mean general Vcard usage, then probably the best place to start
is wikipedia:

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VCard

And also a google search on vcard.

Hi,

I am currently behind a university proxy (squid) server and all access to
the internet has to go through it. How do i configure evolution to be
able
to access my gmail account via the proxy server?
As far i searched online, it seems evolution can only connect via a direct
connection to the internet and there is no way to input any proxy
settings.

Requesting help in this regard.
