"john hotmail" is not a legitimate email address. Unless you have some
local magic that turns it into "john hotmail com", maybe that's you're
problem.

Frankly, it's hard to understand your message (I'm Irish myself and even
I don't get it :-). Try to clearer and more explicit about what's
happening. And try to reduce the problem to the simplest possible
expression: I do X, and Y happens. Quote any error messages in full.
