Re: [Evolution] Bad surprise with Evolution when finally upgraded...

the problem is that you renamed the directory. this prevented evolution
from correctly determining which version it was upgrading from.

Hello everyone,

I am a casual linux user. I recognized however linux definetly rocks for
internet-related tasks mainly because it allows me to spend more time
(and money) on my issues and less time on removing dialers and
installing antivirus bloatware.

Here's the hard truth: I upgraded from Evolution 1.2 (from RedHat9.0) to
Evolution 2.2 (Fedora Core 4).
I knew the new evolution uses '~/.evolution' instead of '~/evolution' so
I happily renamed the directory and fired up the new program.
Well, I knew it wouldn't did it but I tried anyway.
I must say I was not surprised at all when Evolution2.2 gave up with the
migration.
Strangely enough, the procedure seems to be quite simple. I was able to
recover my mails by just moving some files around and renaming them.
This rocked.

It turns out I'm not so lucky with the address book (which is the most
important thing for some users using this PC).
I tried replacing "~/.evolution/addressbook/local/system" but it didn't
work. I am not even sure those two files are really used since I can
delete them and the address book still shows up with the few test
entries I made.
I looked around my new home dir but I simply cannot figure out where the
address book is kept.

I have an almost complete backup of all the home directories.

I did some searchs on the net but I severely lack connectivity so this
is an extremely time consuming process. I read Evo1.4 shares addressbook
format with 2.0 so I am confident a smooth transition is possible.

If someone could give me an hint on where to put the old address files I
would be grateful.
Please also reply to me because I'm not signed on the mailing list.

Thank you,
Massimo
