Re: [Evolution] Bad surprise with Evolution when finally upgraded...

Here's the hard truth: I upgraded from Evolution 1.2 (from RedHat9.0) to
Evolution 2.2 (Fedora Core 4).
I knew the new evolution uses '~/.evolution' instead of '~/evolution' so
I happily renamed the directory and fired up the new program.
Well, I knew it wouldn't did it but I tried anyway.

Eh, no... Besides the path change, the contents changed as well.

I must say I was not surprised at all when Evolution2.2 gave up with the
migration.

Easiest way to migrate: Restore the old Evo dirs (~/evolution in this
case) *before* running Evo the first time on the new system. Evolution
would have done everything automatically for you.

Strangely enough, the procedure seems to be quite simple. I was able to
recover my mails by just moving some files around and renaming them.
This rocked.

It turns out I'm not so lucky with the address book (which is the most
important thing for some users using this PC).

Please see this post for some generic instructions on manually restoring
your Address Books:

I tried replacing "~/.evolution/addressbook/local/system" but it didn't
work. I am not even sure those two files are really used since I can
delete them and the address book still shows up with the few test
entries I made.
I looked around my new home dir but I simply cannot figure out where the
address book is kept.

This dir is the correct path of the default "Personal" named Address
Book. e-d-s gets in your way...

I have an almost complete backup of all the home directories.

I did some searchs on the net but I severely lack connectivity so this
is an extremely time consuming process. I read Evo1.4 shares addressbook
format with 2.0 so I am confident a smooth transition is possible.

If someone could give me an hint on where to put the old address files I
would be grateful.

Hope this answers all your questions...
