[Evolution] Alarms not audible, not visible

When an alarm pops up, it does not come up ahead of all other windows,
and no sound plays. How can I make the alarm window show up on top of
other windows? How can I get it to play a sound?
I'm running Evo 2.0.1 on SuSe 9.2, in KDE 3.3.0.
