Thanks everyone for your replies. I do have the gtk2 rpm installed.
Currently I've *now* got
gtk2-2.2.4-100.SuSE.ulb.3 installed, when I started this thread I had
gtk2-2.2.4-39.i586 installed. The ulb is the result of trying an
upgrade via synaptic.
What I've tried since yesterday is to:
rpm -e gdk-pixbuf gtk2 --nodeps
followed by:
rpm -i gtk2-2.2.4-39.i586.rpm gdk-pixbuf-0.18.0-554.i586.rpm
That did not make things any better. So then I tried running synaptic
and upgrading to the ulb versions of gtk2 and evolution. Same-ole-same-ole.
Maybe the thing to do is a full uninstall/reinstall of gnome.

been deleted for some reason.
In the same directory, libpixbufloader-png.so is the loader for P
