The focus issue is resolved at least in recent snapshots, I don't know
about 1.4.5. Unfortunately there are no 1.4.5 or snapshot packages
available for Mandrake 9.2 (yet?).

The delay is one of my pet peeves [1]. By a close look you will notice,
that the To/Cc/Bcc text fields are not height enough. Thus the text
"dances" when setting or leaving the focus to those text fields.
