I always compile my stuff on my own :-) gtk+ 2.2 needs new atk, 
glib,  libpng, glib and tiff libs. They in turn need new 
libtools, autoconf, etc. etc ad infinitum. I've done all that. 
That's what I mean by highly updated.

O.k., but you're using Mandrake 9, aren't you? With updated libs 
and utilities. And who is to say that ... Anyway, i'll try it 
next weekend, perhaps (the phone costs 1/3 of the price then and 
those downloads can cost many hours at a time.)
