Personally, I am just using Evolution 1.4 with a Palm PDA (no
connector).

I'm finding that the evolution conduits are causing massive
duplication
of any touched item in a way that does not happen against standard evo
contacts/calendar/todo list.

Same thing here; it seems not to be a Connector issue.

Syncing to contacts/calendar/todo in local evolution folders does work
fine - its possible to force minor duplication but you have to try quite
hard to do that and its not a normal way of life the way it is when
syncing against exchange folders.

Hi Nigel,

do you have any hints how to sync the Palm-Memo with Evolution? IMO
Evolution has no memopad.

Hello again,

My keyboard works again! After the upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4 the enter and
backspace keys, at least, lost their functions.

I rebooted the machine to fix it. Gnome/Ximian is emulating the windows
environment perhaps too well? :)

Now I notice the summary page is unable to download data for Weather and
News when I'm logged in as a regular user.

When logged in as root the downloads work fine.

Where would permissions come into play with these communications?

Thanks for your help.

I am not synching against Exchange - in fact, I don't think that any
Microsoft Internet tool is good enough to be used.

I am simply synching PDA and Evolution, and I am seeing massive
duplication.

Hello again,

My keyboard works again! After the upgrade from 1.2 to 1.4 the enter and
backspace keys, at least, lost their functions.

I honestly don't see how this could be pinned on Evolution. Sounds more
like a bug in X or something, or a misconfiguration of your X.

they wouldn't, afaik.

Subject: [Evolution] Tip: Using vfolders for boolean searches

Periodically Evolution gets requests for boolean searches and boolean
criteria for filters and vfolders. These requests have always been
rejected on the grounds that the user "can" use the undocumented (by
Evolution; Scheme documentation is available, but has no hints how to
use Scheme expressions in Evolution) Expression criteria.

I have just noticed a way to bypass this problem, but it would still be
much more convenient to have boolean searches and criteria implemented
directly by Evolution.

The idea is to use the ability to base a vfolder on another vfolder.

I set up a vfolder, "recent, important, unread" to use any of the
criteria:
Received date after 2 days ago,
Sent date after 1 day ago,
  Status is important,
  Status is not read.
I based the vfolder on all local folders plus Inbox and Sent.

Then I set up a second vfolder, "Alice recent, important, unread", based
on "recent, important, unread" to filter out all the messages my wife is
not interested in, by using all of the criteria:
  Recipients does not contain linux
  Subject does not contain hylafax
  Sender does not contain redhat
  etc.

Evolution could simplify this procedure markedly, e.g., by adding an
"And" button at the bottom of the vfolder edit box. When this button is
clicked, expand the box with another
Add-criterion-Execute-actions-vFolder-sources section. The first
section could be executed if any criteria are met, and the second
section, if all criteria are met.

If this enhancement were implemented, I could set up a single vFolder to
select all recent, important, or unread messages which my wife wants to
see, without using an auxiliary vFolder.

The documentation could be improved by referencing the Scheme
documentation and providing a few examples of Scheme expressions, with
descriptions of what they do, in the Evolution documents. A reference
and a few examples of regular expressions in filters would also be
appreciated; they don't seem to work as I expected. Finally,
implementing regular expressions in the vFolder editor would be useful.

Subject: [Evolution] Accented chars disappearing?

The other day I received 2 emails in Spanish. One was in HTML and the
characters looked normal: compañeros, prometí, etc. The other was in
plain text and instead of special characters there was nothing: xito,
confirmacin, etc. In fact, when I view email source on the HTML message,
the words appear like compaeros and promet. I can forward these to my
wife's M$ box and they both look fine in Outlook.

At first I thought my GNOME plain text font (Monospace) might not be
able to display accented chars, but here I am in Monospace (íáñ) and it
seems to be working. Is there some other way I can see these messages
correctly?

Subject: [Evolution] expressions in filters

Hello,

I'm using evolution 1.0.5 on debian/woody and trying to implement
filters against spam.

Everything's OK when using filters on subject.

I want to filter all messages having "unknown" in the "Received:"
specific header.

I can't use the "specific header" option because this header is repeated
many times and "specific header" looks only in the first occurence.

So i'm trying tu use the "expression" option

When i put something like ^Received:.*unknown.* in the expression's
value, i obtain an error dialog while filtering.

This dialog says : "unexpected token encountered ..."

If somebody can help

Thank's

You REALLY don't want to filter on received headers. There's
effectively no standard as to what these things contain.

i.e., the following would be perfectly legal:

Received: from important.fcc.gov (important) by localhost.dom.com
(Postfix) with unknown ESMTP ID for you dom com

Have you thought about using Spamassassin? It's actually quite
effective, and would probably be easier than setting up and
tunin your own filters.

I kind of like this feature. All of the member-enlargement SPAM
that I get (about 10 a day) are asking me if I want bigger and
harder pens. :)

(they are, of course, putting an í in the word to try to evade SPAM
filters)

But, I agree, it should be fixed.

I setup Evolution on my parents debian box some time ago, and until
recently everything was working fine. Then for some reason evolution
would not quote a message when they went to reply to it. It didn't
happen all the time or in all folders, but now it doesn't provide a
quote at all anymore.

Was using version 1.2, and have now installed version 1.4 from debian
unstable. I've un-installed/purged, remove settings, re-install, all to
no avail. Does anyone have any idea or clue on whats going on and how to
fix it?=20

Thank you for your time.

Subject: [Evolution] Any way to get compose to just offer a text dialog?

Right now, when I try to paste text into the Compose dialog, it gets
indented, with this weird flashy rectangle around it. When I try to
delete a single character the whole thing gets deleted. Finally, when
I send the mail, it doesn't look like what I typed in (the indenting
and whitespacing has all changed). This happens to the .sig too but
that's easy to fix: just turn off the .sig.

It's very frustrating!!

Is there any way to get Evo to offer a plain, dumb text input dialog?
Thanks,
