Subject: [Evolution] unable to open the adressbook
Hello,
I keep getting this error when I try to access the contacts folder.
Tasks and Calendar also give the same errors. I have tried everything I
have been able to find, downgraded to a recommended build of DB3,
tried installing from the Ximian installer nothing has resolved the
issue. I am currently reinstalled by the evolution RPM for redhat
rawhide. Any help available would be greatly appreciated.
OS: Redhat-rawhide

My local folders contain the following

Is there a way to change to Content-Transfer-Encoding?
Normally Evolution sends base64 encoded attachments.
We have partners who use old version of outlook which
obviously always assumes a 7bit encoding.
So when we sent a attached .doc and they opened it, it was
completely unreadable.
Is there a way to solve this problem?

Subject: [Evolution] Make Konqueror the default browser
Hello!
I have ASP Linux 9.0 (a derivative of RH 9.0), Evo 1.2.3. I'd like to
make Konqueror my default browser. In Gnome's system options it is
already set as such - but Evo still starts Mozilla. Starting 'gnomecc'
did not help - the program is simply not found.
I know I should go over to 1.4 someday, but can the problem be solved in
1.2.3 somehow?
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely yours, Mikhail Ramendik

Thank Guenther it worked!
For the record, problem solved.
Edit /etc/host and delete everything that is not basic
for the proper work of the system, delete comments,
blank unused espaces and be really carefull to put
only one tab between items.
Then this thing work, I'm really happy cuz 1.4.0 look
better and have more functionality (also more bugs but
it's normal =) ).
Thanks to Jeffrey and Guenther again.
Fernando.

Jeff, about a week ago you posted a possible
workaround, that at least
seemed to play more nice with buggy glibc:
Remove all unnecessary chars from /etc/hosts --
that means any comments,

As this bug seems to be related to /etc/hosts (do
you actually use this

removing this local
line and instead use a DNS server.

Subject: [Evolution] Reading Multiple Messages
Hi, I'm using Evolution 1.4.0 and am a bit disappointed. I recently
switched over from MS Outlook, so I have little to complain about, but
the mail reading is much less smooth. I don't use the preview pane, so
I double-click on the first new message. Then, in Outlook, whatever I
do to that message--whether delete it or move it somewhere--the next
message automatically opens in that window. There are also Next and
Prev buttons. Evolution doesn't have any of that; the mail window you
open is for that message only, making reading multiple messages much
more difficult.
Any option to change that, or plans for implementing that in the future?
Also, why is it so bloody impossible to copy and paste from within said
message windows?!
Thanks,
Andrew

As you mentioned, you probably will upgrade, here are the settings for
Evolution 1.2.x and 1.4.x versions.
To set Konqueror as default browser, just replace 'gnome-moz-remote'
with 'konqueror' and adjust the parameters if needed or change the
attached script. "%s" is the given URL.
...guenther
Evolution 1.4 / Gnome 2.x
-------------------------
Open the "Gnome Control Center" > Preferred Applications > Web Browser
or simply run:
# gnome-default-applications-properties
check 'Custom Web Browser'
Command: gnome-moz-remote --newwin "%s"
This will present you every link (clicked in a Gnome 2 app) in a new
mozilla window. If you prefer tabs (instead of new windows) like me,
change it similar like that:
Command: mozilla-remote.sh "%s"
Have the attached script in your path (or change the command to have the
whole path) and make the script executable.
Evolution 1.2 / Gnome 1.4
-------------------------
Check your ~/.gnome/Gnome file. You need something like that:
[URL Handlers]
default-show=gnome-moz-remote --newwin "%s"
If there are http-show or similar entries, change them, too.
gnome-moz-remote %s
will only open a new mozilla, when none running
displays the URL in the current mozilla (old content overwritten)
gnome-moz-remote --newwin %s
will only open a new mozilla, when none running
displays the URL in a new mozilla window
I use the following default-show entry:
default-show=/home/guenther/bin/mozilla-remote.sh "%s"
With the attached mozilla-remote.sh script (must be executable) it acts
like the --newwin option, but displays the new URL in a new *tab* if
there is already a mozilla running.
I don't lose the displayed URL and can even click multiple URLs and see
them all in the same mozilla.
If you have a ~/.gnome/gnome-moz-remote file, check it, rename it or
plain delete it. You can change settings there too, although you won't
need it.

That's exactly how I understood it.
And I do understand, the culprit is in another library. However, I don't
care what actually is buggy, as long as there is a chance of getting it
to work immediately. And as I remembered your post... ;)

Subject: [Evolution] Evolution 1.2.4 crashes in different cases
Hello out there behind the list,
I'm new to this list so I want to introduce me. My name is Frank Becker,
I'm 38 yrs old and come from Germany.
But now to my problem:
On my debian woody system, I recently updated from evolution 1.0.x to
1.2.4 via apt-get. I use KDE 2.2.2 on kernel 2.4.20.
After the upgrade everything worked fine. But a couple days after the
update several problems appeared.
* It isn't possible to forward a contact to another recipient
* It isn't possible to apply a task to another person
* It isn't possible to send an e-Mail with an attachment
* It isn't possible to forward an e-Mail
In all this cases evolution tells that: "The process which handles mail
has crashed. Please restart evolution"
It's sure that something on my system has changed. But unfortunately I
cannot realise which library I have to reinstall to solve this problem.
Many thanks in advance for your help..
Best regards
Frank Becker

A stack trace from the evolution-mail component might be useful. See
instructions at http://support.ximian.com/q?65
I suspect gnome-vfs is the problem, just in terms of what's triggering
the crashes.

upgrade the server ;-)
but seriously, base64 Content-Transfer-Encoding is one of the originally
defined encodings specified by the MIME specifications.
what other encoding would you have Evolution send? base64 is the only
encoding that can possibly be used for word docs (since they contain
binary data). You can't send word docs as non-encoded 7bit ascii.

I suppose one could uuencode binaries and attach them as text files. :-P
