Hi all-

I've seen a few posts, but nothing concrete on a solution for the
problem that I'm having on three different systems running Mandrake 9.0
and Evolution 1.2.1. I cannot get a sound to play (or a beep) for new
mail notification. esd is running:
 /usr/bin/esd -terminate -nobeeps -as 2 -spawnfd 14

Sound events/server turned on. Every other sound works - panel sounds,
etc ... but not a peep from Evolution. I've even read some posts where
sounds based on filters work - but no luck there, either.

I have a colleague that has sound working fine ... the only difference
was installation method; I think he mentioned that he did not use Red
Carpet... but still - I've searched the net over for any information
regarding this problem and haven't seen anything.

Thanks for any help-

What desktop are you running - GNOME or KDE?
Both use different sound servers and services - that could be part of
the problem.

Using Gnome. I've checked for config discrepancies in the .gnome,
.gnome2, and .gtkrc directories (not to mention looking in the evolution
directory) but haven't found anything that strikes me as being a problem
or out of the ordinary. I've also looked through .xsession-errors ...
but nothing there either. I guess that is why I'm so frustrated with
this - I can't seem to find any config files or places where debug
information can be found.

...I can't find where to start ... or where to look for that matter...
to try to debug this problem. Anyone know?

I don't have a solution, I'm afraid, but I can confirm that I have the
same problem with Evolution 1.2.1 on Mandrake 8.2. I can get filters to
play a sound (which you say you can't) but I cannot get new mail
notifications to work. I've filed a bug report about this, so it would
be good if you added your comments to it. The URL is:
