This afternoon I noticed that ftp.ximian had evolution 1.2.2 for SuSE
8.1 and I tried to upgrade the computer using SuSE 8.1 to the latest
version of Evolution.

On restarting Evo, which does show as 1.2.2, it is no longer possible to
compose new email or reply to email. The error message is:
"Could not create composer window.
Unable to activate HTML editor component."

I have ensured that all of the rpm's from ximian for SuSE 8.1 -
Evolution have been downloaded (except devel and pilot packages) and
installed. Have run killev between each effort. Have closed the
session and logged in again. The response from evo is the same.

Any suggestions on how to get evolution to compose/send email?

Did you upgrade gtkhtml?

Lonnie

(OOPS, this should have been sent to the evolution list sooner.)

Yes I did, in fact that was likely the problem.

I was positive that I had upgraded gtkhtml, but checked as per your
suggestion and found that I had 2 versions, one from ftp.ximian I had
gtkhtml1.1-1.1.8-1.ximian and from www.usr-local-bin where I had picked
up evo 1.2.1 I has also received gtkhtml-1.1-1.1.8-SuSE.jeo

There is a slight difference in the numbering sequence and there had
been no indication of a conflict when the today's ximian version was
installed. Regardless of the lack of obvious conflict, I removed the
SuSE.jeo version so that the only source of packages would be from
ximian, then reinstalled the ximian packages, just to be redundant,
started Evolution and the composer now works.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
