As i look at kde, all programs give you the option to assign keys to functions, just like reply, new, forward, etc. I got those working ok... So probably, this is causing the babylonian mess :-)I believe that this would be a WM issue. Back in the Gnome 1.4 days using Sawfish, I could bind any key to anything. Nowadays that I'm using Gnome 2.2 and Metacity, I can only bind keys to predefined functions, and I'm also a lot more limited in which keys I can use. If you're using the "default" Gnome 2 WM (being metacity) you can try switching to Sawfish and see where you can get with that. Either run "sawfish-ui --group=bindings" or go to Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Advanced -> Sawfish -> Key Bindings. Good luck. :)
Grin, I am using KDE as WM. And, because of the perfect PIM functionality, I do use Evolution. Therefor, this question was 'as is'. Under KDE, it is possible too to bind a key to a function. This works fine for me. But Evo grabs the key-bindings like ctrl-enter to send from somewhere. And i wanna bind this to my pre-def key 'IB2' which is bound to the Unlocked F9 key on the ms keyboard.
