Bob,
You are missing nothing. Evolution is partly misbehaving,and partly to
blame the server.
Problem is already on bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=32469
This used to work on pre-1.2 versions.
I'm pretty sure Ximian Hackers will come with a solution soon.
