Re: [Evolution] Remote Contacts/Calendar?

I know Evolution can handle contacts stored in LDAP but my
understanding it is only read-only. That is, I cannot update
LDAP contacts from within Evolution.

You're mixing up Evo with Mozilla. Mozilla doesn't allow you to change
LDAP records, Evo most definitely does ;)

Depending how clever you are at managing your LDAP ACLs and directory
tree, you can have almost complete contact management using Evo - and
delegate contact list upkeep to other "management" users, if you want.
You can even drag'n drop between local and LDAP Evo contacts. Use the
evolutionperson.schema included with the latest versions. The only thing
you can't (yet?) do, is manage mailing lists with LDAP.

This applies to every Evo version I've used since 1.0.8 - I'm using
1.4.5 now, after 6 months enforced Mozilla. The only thing is that the
implementation for the earlier Evo versions was crummy to say the least;
1.4.5 is really good - eh Chris?

Does anyone know of anything that can run on GNU/Linux or preferably
Solaris that Evolution can remotely access?

I use Openldap on RH ES3, my present version is 2.1.25/BDB 4.1.25
database. Oh, and don't forget GQ for management, present version is
1.0b1
