Re: [Evolution] LDAP contact updates?

You need to be authenticating with the ldap server. Unfortunately
there's no way (that I know of at least, someone *please* correct me if
I'm wrong) to find out read/write permissions per entry portably.. So
evolution just assumes you need to auth to write.

The quick question: Does Evolution support LDAP-based contact updates?

The detail:

I spent the better part of the last 12 hours trying to setup a private
LDAP-based contact list that I could read/write in Evolution 1.2.2.

I had read some posts in this mailing list archives that led me to
believe that it could be done as long as I had write permissions to the
LDAP directory for the records. The online help says otherwise, but the
manual also lists "Base" as one of the available search scopes (it's
not) so I am inclined to think that the help is out of date.

I have upped the debug level on the OpenLDAP logs and it shows that I am
given full write access for the records Evolution finds under the search
base yet when I bring them up in Evolution all the fields are grayed
out. New contacts are also entirely grayed out.

Is this possible? If so could someone please give me any pointers about
what I might be doing wrong? I'm fairly certain it's not my OpenLDAP
setup because if I add contacts via LDIF import at the command line
binding as the same DN as I'm using in Evolution it updates just fine.

Thanks,
Sean
