Both commands only will execute oaf-slay if evolution is not running.

Wow. Cool. Thanks.

NP. Still wondering, if you really need oaf-slay every time you start
evolution.

Now, when it as found out that Evolution is running, is there a way for
a script to bring the existing Evolution window to the front? Or am I
now wishing too much?

Not to my knowledge. That would depend on your Window Manager.

Presently, starting Evolution when it's already running brings up a
second main window. And this is something I would like to avoid.

Uh, normally that is the desired behavior.

If you start an application (clicking an icon is nothing else) you want
to start that application. What's wrong with using the features your
Window Manager offers you to display apps?
