With 1.0.x (use x >= 8 at least), you can authenticate with either
password or e-mail address, simple bind.

But you probably, sensibly, mean SASL authorization, in which case the
answer is "no". Bug Ximian people (like Chris, for example) to get it
working sooner than late 2099. Clap your hands each time you do it, and
I'll join you.
