[Evolution] Visor sync - USB - Evolution 1.0.2 & 1.2

Mandrake 8.2
Evolution 1.0.2 & 1.2
Handspring Visor Pro - USB

Summary - Synchronization of Handspring Visor on USB to Evolution 1.0.2
works well, but fails under Evolution 1.0.8 and 1.2. I would appreciate
assistance to synchronize with Evolution 1.2

I installed Evolution 1.0.2 that came with Mandrake 8.2, and was able to
synchronize my Handspring Visor on a USB cable at 9600. I confirmed
that entries can be added or deleted on either the desktop or the
handheld, and subsequently recognized by the other after a
synchronization.

Next, I upgraded to Evolution 1.2. I can no longer synchronize. When I
run the command

pilot-xfer -p /dev/pilot --list

all of the applications on my Handspring are printed. When I run
gpilotd from the command line, and try to synchronize, I obtain the
following message.

gpilotd
gpilotd-Message: gnome-pilot 0.1.69 starting...
gpilotd-Message: compiled for pilot-link version 0.11.5
gpilotd-Message: compiled with [VFS] [GOAD] [USB] [IrDA] [Network]
gpilotd-Message: Activating CORBA server
gpilotd-Message: Watching Visor_Pro (/dev/pilot)
gpilotd-Message: setting PILOTRATE=9600

Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

Since I can synchronize with Evolution 1.0.2, but cannot with Evolution
1.0.8 and 1.2, I would appreciate assistance on how to correct this
problem.

Sincerely,
Walt
