That is what it's doing, it's threading them under the most recent

But I really did. I get one message with subject "foo." A month later I
get another message with subject "foo." Then somebody sends a message
with subject "RE: foo", and it gets threaded under the old one.

Ummm, I think something is odd with you wording.

"could you put the new messages to be threaded under the most recent message with a matching subject?"

Are you saying you have other messages with the subject "foo" or RE:
foo that are not sorted under the month old foo?

It seems like you ask for one thing, bur expect another.

If you have an original Message "Subject: Foo" sent Jan 1. And on
March 20, a message "Subject: RE: Foo" comes in I would expect it to be
under the Jan 1 message.

Then if a message comes in March 23 with "Subject: RE: Foo" I expect
that to be under (but necessarily a child of) the March 20 note, which
is under (and a child of) the Jan 1 note.

So perhaps you problem is that You have a new not March 15 with
"Subject: Foo" and you want evo to treat that note as the parent?

When threading by subject (because the In-Reply-To header is not
present), could you put the new messages to be threaded under the most
recent message with a matching subject? I keep getting emails with
identical subjects to mails that I got a month ago, and when people
reply to them, Evo threads them under the old ones.

Thanks,
Eric
