OH MY GOD! I feel like a complete ass. In all the years (well, 2 years)
of using Linux, I've never ONCE read about this anywhere at all. I
must've read every HOWTO known to man for every issue imagineable, and
this is the first time I learn about this. And it works 100% too! I'll
go hide my head in shame...

Don't feel too bad. I've been a UNIXer for over a decade and still have
to re-grab stuff too often.

As Alessio mentioned, KDE has klipper, and GNOME has something like it.
I don't remember what desktop you said you used, but check its
utilities, it may have a "clipboard manager" of some kind. I just keep
forgetting about it, since I started with FVWM way back before "modern"
X-windows desktops.

You must have `xml-i18n-toolize' installed to compile evolution.

Ahh, that one. Two options, get that from CVS also and do it first, or
take the cpio I created from the Mandrake RPM (and attached) and place
the files in the correct places.

BTW: the cpio can be undone at /, and all should be correct, unless
slackware puts stuff in different directories. The file list is:
./usr/bin/xml-i18n-extract
./usr/bin/xml-i18n-merge
./usr/bin/xml-i18n-prepare
./usr/bin/xml-i18n-toolize
./usr/bin/xml-i18n-unicodify
