/dev/pilot is commonly a symbolic link to the real device, /dev/ttys1 in
you example. It needn't be, you can point to the real device. Usually
you set up the 'default' cradle to the same settings you have in your
environment, for instance I this in my .bash_profile:
PILOTPORT=/dev/visor
PILOTRATE=115200
And the same info is repeated for cradle.
