Re: [Evolution] spamassassin

It's the job of the smtp mailserver to allow or deny mail domains.

There's absolutely no way Evo could reject spam before it receives it.
in your mail box.

Perhaps this is clearer as to what I want to do. Kmail can generate a
bounce that appears to be sent from the mail server. Normally, this can
be done manually, but I can set its filters (rules) so that mail
spamassassin detects as spam is first "bounced" and then moved to a
"spam" folder.

While the mail is not actually rejected, it appears to the spammer as if
it was sent to a non-existent address on the server. If the spammer is
gathering and using this information, it thinks that the address is
"dead" and deletes it from its database. It is a way of unsubscribing.

Can I do the same in evolution?

Interesting. I can do the same with my mailserver by feeding it the
6,000 plus Vortex spammers' database (updated daily), getting it to look
up ORBS and other DNS and dial-in databases etc, but spammers change
their mail addresses the whole time, relay through open servers, change
ISPs on the fly, etc. (God knows what animates them, apart from the fact
that they think they can make money).

I've come to the conclusion that it's better to accept the spam and let
it disappear silently into the giant cesspit that I have, from which it
can be recovered if necessary.

Evo has absolutely no provision for doing what's possible with an SMTP
mailserver. And in my HO, neither should it attempt to. It all generates
extra network and Internet traffic.

Spammers' databases are replaced regularly and do not get the idea that
there's any updating done. Selling "millions of email addresses", valid
or not, is where the real money is made.

Best,

Tony
