With evolution 1.0.8, whenever I try to send an email, I get the following message:
Error while 'Sending "Test"': HELO response error: Command not implemented
I upgraded to the latest snapshot (21/08/2002),and got the same. I then upgraded to the latest devel snapshot, and got the same (but slightly differently worded ) message:
EHLO Dave! Firstly, I can tell you that the mail server (MTA) you're sending to is Exim MTA (i.e. not Sendmail, not Qmail, not Postfix, not MS Exchange etc. etc.) and Exim's my speciality. Secondly this has nothing to do with Evo, all to do with Exim. Thirdly, you're sending EHLO instead of HELO and the Exim binary that your MTA uses isn't compiled/configured for it. Fourthly Exim doesn't normally take any notice of wrongly formulated HELOs (mine s*dd*ng well do), even though you're sending it what is in fact a wrongly formulated (syntactically *incorrect*) EHLO, which mine would discard, and refuse to accept the message (anti spam, anti virus, anti relay etc.). Fifthly, as you can see, your mail is accepted and queued anyway. Sixthly, you should ignore the whole thing until your Opaltelecom people have learned to configure their Exim mailserver correctly (show them this. They should learn to configure DNS too, so that you can use a fully qualified hostname on your internal network :) Best, Tony ---
