[Evolution] Truetype fonts

When I follow the instructions in the Linux font de-uglification HOWTO
-- and get truetype fonts installed in my font path -- some messages in
Evolution have unreadably small and ugly looking fonts.  I looked at the
HTML source for one message and the font being used is Arial.

Is there a way around this problem (other than removing the truetype
fonts from my font path)?

My OS is Redhat 7.1.
