I wonder if it has anything to do with Virtual folders on IMAP folders.
Frankly, I seldom use virtual folders as I have my own mail server and
create new e-mail addresses at will according to the subject on hand.
(kind of pre-sorting).
But once in a while I will create a filter with a vFolder to find a
message among my myriad of e-mail accounts. It was certainly the case
these last few weeks when I started noticing some kind of memory leak.
I've just deleted the vFolder and it seems to not leak anymore but only
time will tell.

Pascal

You could try using 'memprof' on evolution-mail (you run 'memprof
evolution-mail' before starting evolution) to try and track down what is
eating so much memory. We do occasionally but I certainly dont
experience that problem with evolution (but i am using an earlier
version).
Somebody else reported this to me a while ago on IRC and I asked him to
run memprof but memprof just got all confused and reported nothing.
Although, this seems to be related to IMAP filtering. (I.e. if I
remember correctly, he didn't seem to have any memory leaks if he turned
off all the indexes.)
