Does evolution not understand the PRINTER variable in my env?
It's not evolution, it's LPR. My guess is that you're setting PRINTER in
your environment after oafd is started, and so evolution-mail (which is
launched by oafd, not by evolution directly) isn't seeing it. If you set
it in your .bashrc (or whatever), it should work.
