Re: [Evolution] Keybinding bug

Ok dude, I'm totally with you.
I'm not dissin you, I'm just saying that with a number of pieces if
software...
I have spent too much time trying to figure it out...
I totally agree that Evolution should *completely* integrate with the rest
of GNOME
but the familiar interface is a plus if you ever want anyone to use this
except for people
like us. I mean, take Gnumeric for example. I had no trouble at all the
first time I used it
because the interface was familiar to that of M$ Excel. I too am sick of M$
being shoved in
all of our faces as the only "choice." I was just stating my opinion as
more of an end-user
than a developer. It's all in the interface baby... If you want anyone to
be able to use
the software except "3133+ H4X0R5" there my 2 pennies...

Obviously, the point I was trying to make is being misunderstood. First,
I'm not sure how many people use Outlook - I imagine since M$ shoves it
down everyone's throat that a good number of people do use it - that's
what WIndows is for, stifling choice. I've used Netscape for years, but
I don't expect Evolution to mimic it. This would be silly to even
expect. Also, I'm not saying that it shouldn't look like Outlook,
although the new stuff M$ is putting out (i.e Office 2000, etc.) looks
like it is being designed by a kid with a crayon. I am saying that you
don't take keybindings that are standard for a platform and bastardize
them to match another product/platform. The bottom line is this is NOT
Outlook - and it is not running on Windows. If I wanted nothing more
that Outlook, then I would just run WIndows.

No flame intened - this is just my two cents.

Dude... You may have never used Outlook, but the majority of the People
have.
If you give them a piece of software they are not familiar with, sure
they
could
spend the time to try and figure it out, but to make the interface
familiar.
The reason I was attracted to evolution in the forst place is because
of
it's
Outlook-a-like-ness... because of the familiar interface. I don't have
time
to
sit and look and figure out how to get my email... Or where to put my
Contacts...
And for more people to use this they need a familiar interface.

Why are you guys so worried about making Evolution nothing more than
an
Outlook clone. I don't use Evolution because it mimics Outlook - in
fact I have never used Outlook at all and never have. I think that
Evolution should honor the Gnome keybindings and other Gnome
standards.

The fact is, those who use Outlook will more than likely continue to
use
Outlook. Those who want something better will use Evolution. Don't
make Evolution a clone, make it a leader.

That is a very bad idea; all other GNOME programs use 'ctrl-q' as
'exit'. If you are very serious about outlook keybinding
compatibility,
make it a configuration option with the GNOME settings as default.

Our resident outlook watcher has apparently rebound that key to

There is a small bug in the last few snapshots, where 'ctrl-q'

it, I
thought I would.
