Thanks, this worked! To clarify, the fix is not to remove the actual
files, but rather to edit them to remove the XML elements with an
attribute containing \", 


    value=" ... \" ... "


for example

<oaf_attribute name="description-az" type="string" 
                value="\"Evolution\"un icrac&#196;&#177;
m&#195;&#188;nd&#201;&#153;ricat par&#195;&#167;as&#196;&#177;
e'malatxanas&#196;&#177;."/>

The files with this problem are GNOME_Evolution_Addressbook.oaf,
GNOME_Evolution_Addressbook_GnomeCard_Importer.oaf,
GNOME_Evolution_Calendar.oaf, GNOME_Evolution_Mail.oaf,
GNOME_Evolution_Shell.oaf and GNOME_Evolution_Summary.oaf.
