If that is the case, it is a COMPLETELY unrelated problem, and simply a
bug.
The rest is intentional and will not change.

Doesn't this still leave the deleted mail in the folder it was deleted from,
taking up space there instead of a separate "Trash" folder?
Since deleted mail seems not to go into the "Trash" folder, what is the
"Trash" folder used for? (currently and planned for future)
One other related problem I have noticed is that "Expunge" and
"Empty Trash" remove messages from the local message store, but
don't actually remove the messages from a POP3 server until
Evolution exits. I was able to spot this while running Webmail
to my ISP's mail server. The remote trash folder contained
all the deleted messages until I exited from Evolution.
