Hi Federico,
I read your answer to Ali about how to handle other calendars. While I find it great, is it really needed?
Let me explain. In a perfect world, someone in China would be able to write assembly in chinese and compile.
This is great but represents a lot of work. I also think your approach represents lots of work too even though it is very laudable.
In truth what users really need are views. In other words we don't need to store appointments made in islamic calendar to be stored as such. All we need is to be able to have custom views of the calendar, that is to be able to show:
- a week that starts on any day in week view .
- a period of time that can span some days in month view. In truth 1st of 1st month to 30th of 1st month in islamic calendar would correspond to 4 January to 2 February.
If we are able to do that then this custom view would be available if the user has set an option to view islamic calendar. Then storing appoitments and tasks would be done in standard time (gregorian). All that has changed is the view. Again when the calendar is started it reads the options and shows this custom view if applicable.
Of course all that I've said applies equally well to any other calendar. Now when internationalization becomes easier and more in reach, we could start thinking about implementing storage in any way we wish. Until then a makeup would always be better than none at all.
Finally, if I can help please do tell me and I will start hacking. All I really need is the possibility of creating custom views of the calendar.
Thanks again for answering so fast and kudos for all your good work.
