Good suggestion,
I was the one that did the VEVENT part of that conversion. Someone is
working on adding that to Evolution.
I was looking for a quick 'fix', something that let some people move
forward as the more correct solutions are finished.
Anyone know how to get Evolution to read an iCalendar file?

Alternatively, you could try using the vCal to iCal convertor that the
libical team implemented. The file is src/test/testvcal.c, and the
tarball's at http://www.softwarestudio.org/download/libical-0.23.tar.gz
Perhaps a wrapper for this could be included in Evo 1.1?
